How to Speed up Microsoft Windows 7

How to Speed up and Optimize Microsoft Windows 7 – for faster and better experience with your everyday computing.

Thank you for Microsoft Windows 7! At least its alot faster and better than Microsoft Vista, which you don’t have those annoying pop ups that comes up everytime
you try to install a program, use a program or just basically do about anything. With Windows 7 they fixed those pop ups by making them low profile and just seats down on the taskbar until you are ready or notice it and approves it later on after you have finished whatever you are doing at that moment. Windows 7 on a brand new computer runs very fast just like any operating systems on a brand new computer but can slowdown overtime. The slowing down of windows 7 is a case by case situation. Below are some general guidelines and things that you can do to make your computer perform better.

1. Delete and remove programs that you don’t use.
Programs to look for are the so called will make your PC computer runfaster programs.

2. Only run necessary programs during startup.
Alot of programs are by default setup to automatically start when you first turn on your computer. Turning Off those programs that you hardly use, will free up memory that can be used by your computer Immediately.

3. Defragment your hard disk.
Your computer will try to store data, one program on a single available space as much as it can. But unfortunately specially when you have reached that stage where you already installed lots of programs, a single program or software will be stored scattered in various places(fragmented) making it harder for it to be accessed, which makes that program run slower. For the program to be easily accessible you need to unscattered them(defragment).

4. Clean your hard disk.
Removing unwanted programs and data that you dont use anymore will free up storage space for programs that you use frequently.

5. Run fewer programs at one time.
Computer are so powerfull that we can do alot of things at the same time. But computers also have limits. It depends on how powerful your computer is, the more processing power it has the more capable it is of performing multiple task at the same time. examples are your facebook is open while watching youtube, emails are open, msn chat and skype are open while your google chrome or mozilla browsers have multiple tabs open to different websites, and to top that your anti-virus software just started scanning in the background.

6. Turn off any visual effects on your desktop.

Turn off visual effects

If Windows is running slowly, you can speed it up by disabling some of its visual effects. It comes down to appearance versus performance. Would you rather have Windows run faster or look prettier? If your PC is fast enough, you don’t have to make this tradeoff, but if your computer is just barely powerful enough for Windows 7, it can be useful to scale back on the visual bells and whistles.

You can choose which visual effects to turn off, one by one, or you can let Windows choose for you. There are 20 visual effects you can control, such as the transparent glass look, the way menus open or close, and whether shadows are displayed.

To adjust all visual effects for best performance:

  1. Open Performance Information and Tools by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type Performance Information and Tools, and then, in the list of results, click Performance Information and Tools.
  2. Click Adjust visual effects. Administrator permission required If you’re prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  3. Click the Visual Effects tab, click Adjust for best performance, and then click OK. (For a less drastic option, select Let Windows choose what’s best for my computer).

7. Restart your computer regularly.
Maybe this is not you but alot of people do not turn off their computers specially if they are for business use. you need to turn your PC off at least once a week so that updates can be process.

8. Add more memory(RAM) to your computer.
For an immediate impact increasing the physical computer RAM will help alot to make
your windows 7 run faster.

9. Check your computer for viruses, spyware and malicious programs.
Even if you have installed the maximum memory(RAM) capacity of your computer but if your computer is infected by a virus, spyware or other malicious programs(example unknown freewares), it will still not run as fast as you would like it to be.
